Blue Energy in the news …

Isaac Council wants Blue Energy gas field approval to be revoked
June 2023 – Isaac Regional Council, the council that hosts the highest number of coal mines of any local government in Queensland, wants the state government to “revoke” its recent approval of Blue Energy’s planned 530 coal seam gas wells in the region.
Isaac Regional Council has requested the approval be revoked due to Blue Energy’s lack of social impact assessment, workforce analysis, lack of engagement with the regional council and broader local community, and the likely damage the project would inflict on the region’s roads

Climate wars: Activists move to block 530 coal seam gas wells in Central Queensland
April 2023 – The Bowen Basin is the heartland of Qld’s coal industry but now a small firm has plans to build a gas pipeline extending from Townsville to Gladstone, despite ferocious pushback.

Palaszczuk Government approves 500 gas well project, wants southern states and the feds to pay for pipeline
24 March 2023 – “Blue Energy’s modelling shows more than 19 billion litres of water will be extracted during the two decade life of this proposed gasfield. Fifty-three water bores lie within 10km of this project that farmers rely on for stock and home use.”
The application was not put through a rigorous Environmental Impact Assessment, but a less transparent Environmental Assessment. This means many aspects of the project were not publicly assessed such as the predicted carbon emissions from the project – either onsite or when the gas is burnt. Instead, Blue Energy only addresses emissions from the project in terms of the potential impact on local air quality.

CSG wells and pipeline across Bowen Basin
14 Dec 2022 – A fracking company’s plan to drill more than 1000 CSG wells and lay over 700km of pipelines across Central Queensland must be rejected, according to some community groups.

Blue Energy was sent packing when it tried to frack the fertile farming country of the Wide Bay Burnett region in 2019.

ATP1112A is located in the Carpentaria Basin of North Western Queensland. It is located south of the Gulf of Carpentaria region and approximately 40km west of Normanton.

The area has had little exploration seismic or drilling. The focus will be on delineating the prospective marine shale facies for shale gas and oil potential. Early Cretaceous sandstones sealed by the mid Cretaceous mudstones within the Carpentaria Basin provide excellent reservoir potential.
