Santos Limited is in the business of the exploration, production, treatment, and marketing of hydrocarbons including methane (natural gas), ethane, crude oil, condensate, naphtha, and liquid petroleum gas. Santos transports crude oil by pipeline and runs their LNG processing plant and shipping terminal on Curtis Island in Queensland.
Santos is the biggest supplier of natural gas in Australia, with its plants in the Cooper Basin in South Australia and South West Queensland supplying the eastern states of Australia. Its operations also extend to the seas off Western Australia and Northern Territory. The company was founded in 1954 and is headquartered in Adelaide, Australia.
At the end of 2021, Santos had proved plus probable (2P) reserves increased by 80 per cent to 1,676 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboe). As of December 31, 2012, the company had total proved and probable hydrocarbon reserves of 1,406 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Santos has operations in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, and the Kyrgyz Republic with an exploration and production area of 152,360 square kilometers.
According to Macroaxis, the company has return on total asset (ROA) of 2.57 % which means that it generated profit of $2.57 on every $100 spent on asset. This is way below average. 15 December 2022 – ASIC & ASX asked to investigate if Santos misled investors over Barossa gas
Environment Centre Northern Territory (ECNT) has lodged formal complaints with ASIC and the ASX against gas giant Santos over potentially false and misleading statements it made about its Barossa gas project.
7 Nov 2022 – Union convoy backs Gomeroi against coal seam gas
The union movement mobilised in solidarity with the Gomeroi people against the climate-wrecking Narrabri coal seam gas mining operation on Gomeroi lands in the Pilliga forest.
A large gathering of unionists travelled to Coonabarabran to stand in solidarity with the Gomeroi people demanding that Santos immediately withdraw the four “Future Acts Determination Applications” it has lodged with the Native Title Tribunal.

Santos spends $17M on Pilliga spill clean-up
24 Jun 2013 – ABC – Coal seam gas explorer, Santos, says it’s spent $17-million rehabilitating contaminated coal seam gas water spills in the Pilliga State Forest.
The state government has announced it’s launching a prosecution against Santos in the Land and Environment Court over the spills.
“It’s been described as a toxic waste but, to be realistic about it, that was comparing the guidelines to the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and no one drinks black water out of a puddle in the forest to my knowledge.” – Santos’ Manager of Environment and Water, Alan Feeley, has told the ABC’s 7.30
