Cathy’s artwork powerfully depicts the issues of complacency and crisis, serving as a sharp reminder of the prevailing approach to climate change among many individuals in positions of power.

With over 1,200 votes cast, it’s no surprise that the competition was intense, with just a few votes separating the top three contenders.

Climate 200 hosted the inaugural Climate Cartoon People’s Choice Award, celebrating the essential contributions of the numerous talented Australian cartoonists who fearlessly address climate change issues through their work.

Once again, a big congratulations to Cathy Wilcox for claiming this year’s Climate Cartoon People’s Choice Award. Cathy has graciously decided to donate her prize money to the Australian Cartoonists Association.

We also extend our congratulations to Megan Herbert, who received the first-ever Climate Council Cartoon Award. This award was granted by a distinguished panel consisting of Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, Dr. Rebecca Huntley, Holly Williams, and Amanda McKenzie, the CEO of the Climate Council.

Both awards were presented in conjunction with the 39th Annual Stanley Awards of the Australian Cartoonists Association and were established to recognize the cartoonists who boycotted this year’s fossil fuel-sponsored Walkley Awards for Journalism.

Nearly 1,200 individuals have signed the open letter urging the Walkley Foundation to sever its ties with Ampol and establish a dedicated climate awards category. The letter will be forwarded letter to the Chair of the Walkley Foundation as promised.

As pledged, five fortunate winners were selected from among all the voters. Congratulations to Victoria B., Tim L., Geoff C., Rosalie S., and Karen C., who will each receive a high-quality print of their chosen cartoon!

Once more, heartfelt congratulations to Cathy Wilcox, Andrew Weldon, and Megan Herbert.
