Affordable Art Fair returns to Melbourne

The Affordable Art Fair is set to return to Melbourne this winter, transforming the Royal Exhibition Building with thousands of new artworks from over 55 of Australia’s top boutique galleries.

Running from August 29 to September 1, the fair aims to make art buying accessible and enjoyable, with prices ranging from $100 to $10,000. Visitors can expect a relaxed atmosphere, visible pricing, and the chance to interact directly with gallerists and artists.

Georgia Huestis, the Fair’s Melbourne Director, expressed excitement about the upcoming event. “We can’t wait to return to the city that launched Affordable Art Fair’s Australian journey back in 2019. Five years on, we now have three fairs across the east coast and have welcomed tens of thousands of art lovers through our doors,” she said.

Huestis highlighted the fair’s inclusive nature, ensuring an engaging experience for seasoned collectors, art enthusiasts, and first-time buyers alike.

The fair will feature a diverse range of original works from galleries such as SOL Gallery and Outré Gallery in Fitzroy, Art to Art in Balwyn, and the leading online gallery Bluethumb in Richmond.

Regional highlights include Salt Contemporary from Queenscliff, Plume Gallery from Lorne, and Manyung Gallery from Sorrento, alongside interstate participants like Grainger Gallery from Canberra and Chris Riley Gallery from Brisbane.

One of the event’s key partners, Warlukurlangu Artists, an Aboriginal-owned art centre, will present authentic works with all sales proceeds supporting First Nations artists.

The fair also offers an engaging Artists in Action program, featuring live demonstrations and interactive art experiences, such as ceramic demonstrations by Louise Kyriakou and live sketches by James Price.

Additionally, the Discover: Young Talent program will showcase emerging artists under 35, while the Children’s Art Studio, in collaboration with Gold Coast artist Dion Parker, will provide kid-friendly activities and face painting.

Since its Australian debut in Melbourne in 2019, the Affordable Art Fair has become a staple in the city’s cultural calendar. The event is part of a global network of fairs organized by Ramsay Fairs UK, founded by Will Ramsay.

Over its 25-year history, the Affordable Art Fair has welcomed over 3.3 million visitors and sold 600,000 artworks worldwide, highlighting the growing demand for quality, affordable contemporary art.

The full gallery lineup will be announced on this page soon.
