Inside Out ° Exploring the Critical Relationship Between Photography & Truth

Mark Anning’s portrait of Betty May Stark was used to promote the Melbourne leg of the global participatory art project Inside Out. The exhibition in Melbourne’s iconic Federation Square marked the opening weekend of PHOTO 2021 International Festival of Photography (18 – 21 February 2021).

Inside Out and PHOTO 2021 asked applicants to respond to the question “WHAT IS YOUR TRUTH?”, tying in with the festival’s theme: Exploring the Critical Relationship Between Photography and Truth.

“In a time when the truth is being challenged, and newspapers are being silenced, this is a public call to arms,” said PHOTO 2021 artistic director Elias Redstone. “The Inside Out Project gives everyone a platform to speak their truth.”
