Gas joint venture posts more than $300m in losses
27 April 2023 – (AFR) Shell and PetroChina’s joint venture Arrow Energy now owes its shareholders more than $US2 billion ($3 billion) after the Australian entity posted an annual loss of more than $300 million in 2022.
The result extends the poor run endured by Arrow Energy, which has posted a string of annual losses since the joint venture was created a decade ago.

Coal seam gas company Arrow Energy fined $1m for breaching Queensland’s land access rules
31 Mar 2022 – (Guardian) The Queensland government has fined coal seam gas company Arrow Energy $1m for breaches of land access rules over four years, after an investigation into allegations the company drilled diagonally beneath farmland without notifying the landholders.
The fine is among the most significant non-compliance penalties ever issued to a resources company in Queensland.

Landowner tensions blow up at Qld gas venture
9 Feb 2022 – (AFR) An escalation of tensions with landowners over allegedly unauthorised coal seam gas drilling by a venture owned by Shell and PetroChina has slowed development of a $10 billion gas project in south-east Queensland, risking a delay of needed supplies for the east coast and export market.
The worsening situation involving the Arrow Energy venture has triggered the intervention of the GasFields Commission Queensland, the independent body tasked with managing the co-existence of the coal seam gas industry with landholders and regional communities.
Arrow has so far failed to win back the trust of landholders, while land subsidence in some areas during the wettest November in Dalby on record has aggravated their grievances.

Arrow Energy operation

Arrows activities are focused on the exploration, extraction and use of CSG in Queensland, which will underpin the planned Arrow LNG project.

The project is comprised of five sub-projects.

The Curtis Island, Gladstone project will take CSG from Arrow’s producing fields in the Surat and Bowen basins to a facility on Curtis Island via two major pipelines, for conversion to LNG and export to international markets.

Arrow has five gas production fields in the Surat and Bowen basins in Queensland. Arrow provides about 20 per cent of Queenslands gas supply, mainly for electricity generation.

In the Surat Basin, Arrow has four production fields and supplies the Daandine, Braemar and Braemar 2 power stations. Arrow owns and operates Braemar 2 and has take-off rights at Daandine.

Arrow (ASX Code: AOE) listed on the ASX in 2000 following the granting of Arrow’s first Surat Basin tenure, ATP 683. The granting of ATP 676 (Chinchilla) soon followed. BHP has farm-in rights to ATP 364 in the Bowen Basin.

Arrow ASX:AOE delisted from the Australian stock exchange in 2010 following the takeover by Shell and PetroChina.

Arrow subsidiaries include Australian CH4 Pty Ltd, CBM Pty Ltd. and BNG Pty Ltd. Arrow acquired CH4 Gas Limited (ASX Code: CHX) in a friendly take over in 2006.

Bow Energy NL (ASX Code: BOW) lists on the ASX. Bow was created as a spin-off petroleum company when Arrow focused on CSG project development.
Bow takes Arrow’s conventional petroleum interests.

Arrow runs the Kogan North CSG pilot project between Dalby and Chinchilla.
The Arrow Surat Pipeline transports CSG from gas fields in the Surat Basin to Gladstone

2005 – Arrow’s first reverse osmosis (RO) plant at Tipton West in the Surat Basin.

2009 – Arrow purchases Theten, a 12,000 acre mixed cropping and grazing property. Theten goes on to become Arrow’s central research centre and the site of coexistence demonstrations that include pitless drilling, pad drilling and irrigation projects using treated CSG water. Theten was originally called The Ten.

In just over a decade, Arrow has become an internationally-backed, experienced industry leader, well-placed to deliver a multi-billion dollar CSG to LNG project.
