Executive member of Maroochydore and Go Mooloolaba Chambers of Commerce.  Staff recruitment and management (in early stages of the project) of a $6.5 million New Work Opportunities program funded by the Australian federal government. Centrelink provided the manpower through ‘work for the dole’, local council\’s provided the projects and the SCEDB provided the management.

Daily liaison with TASS (the USSR news agency) resulting in accreditation to attend the G7 Economic Summit when President Mikhail Gorbachev announced his attendance. The G7 Summit in July was the catalyst for the August Coup on Gorbachev’s return.
My MBA thesis drew on the experience of disruption of analog to digital, colour newspapers & competitor analysis that changed the newspaper photography industry, and the Australian and European relationship & context of Murdoch buying up the industry.

Mark Anning, MBA has worked in the media for more than 45 years, including photo manager & picture editing for AAP, AP & Reuters during the transition to digital, and photographer / managing the picture desk at events including Olympics & Commonwealth Games, Formula 1, CHOGM 2002 & G7 Economic Summit 1991.

Mark was photographer-in-residence at Artspace, Wooolloomooloo during APEC 2007 and at AFTRS/NIDA – Australia’s premier film & acting schools. His last role was a short time as Group Picture Editor for News Ltd’s NSW suburban newspapers. Mark’s portrait subjects include Queen Elizabeth II, David Bowie & Naomi Watts.

Taking a hiatus from photography in the 1990’s, Mark Anning used his media management skills as manager for the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Board, sat on the regional Queensland Fisheries Management Authority ZAC while founding president of an Australian Marine Conservation Society branch, worked as a journalist for the federal Attorney-General Dept on the report rationalising the legal industry under Keating, and lasted four weeks as a federal Liberal Party MP’s journalist.

Mark has recently worked on issues-based media management including on the Lock The Gate strategy committee maintaining an independent shock & awe media campaign on the social, economic, environmental & health impacts of fracking gas.

During Covid lockdown in 2021-2022 photographing documentary & photojournalism while “embedded with Magnum Photos” doing a masters in photography (French equivalent) with Magnum – Speos Photography School in Paris, France. Mark is concentrating on the website assignment.
