Australia v Canada in the Final
26 November, 2022 – Canada is through to Sunday’s Davis Cup Final against Australia, who won over Netherlands in their Quarter Final.
Hewitt was a star of the team when Australia last won the Davis Cup or even made the final, in 2003, 19 years ago. That was the country’s 28th triumph in the competition, and now it has a chance to go after number 29 and the $3 million in prize money.
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson beat the Olympic champion pair of Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic from Croatia in the deciding doubles to earn a 2-1 team victory. Purcell and Thompson won 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 6-4 victory.
Australian Alex de Minaur beat Marin Cilic 6-2 6-2. Coatian Borna Coric won over Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first rubber.
Canada triumphed over Italy with a 2-1 win, earning their place in the 2022 Davis Cup Final. This comes after a shocking turn of events from Italy, when Matteo Berrettini, who has little experience in doubles and originally withdrew from play due to injury, took to the court for the deciding match.

The history of the Davis Cup
The Davis Cup competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States. By 2016, 135 nations entered teams into the competition.
As of September 2022, reigning champion Russia and Belarus were suspended due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In the annual World Group competition, 16 nations compete in eight first-round ties; the eight winners compete in four quarterfinal ties; the four winners compete in two semifinal ties; and the two winners compete in the final tie.
As in other cup competitions tie is used in the Davis Cup to mean an elimination round. In the Davis Cup, the word rubber means an individual match. Each tie consists of five rubbers, which are played in three days. The winner of the tie is the nation which wins three or more of the five rubbers in the tie.
